Happy New Year – 1833

Happy New Year from the Beagle – 1833 for Darwin and 2013 for the rest of us!

The year started pleasantly enough….

“For this & the following day we had a moderate wind from the old quarter SW; we all thought that after so much bad weather we should at least have a few fine days; the wind lulled & we hailed with joy a light air from the East; but in a couple of hours it veered to the North & then blew a strong gale from the SW.” (Jan 1, 1833)

…but the winds were a changin’ and the sea was about to get rough.

Thanks to everyone who has been reading the blog this past year.  I’m looking forward to another year of adventuring with Charles and the boys of the Beagle. Best new year wishes to everyone! (RJV)
